Airspan Networks (

Alert) Inc. has made its final selection of 3D ray-tracing propagation models for use in its Fixed and Mobile WiMAX
network deployments.
Wavecall SA of Switzerland will supply its WaveSight 3D model to Airspan for all RF modeling of WiMAX products in urban areas.Airspan will use the model to plan the mass deployment of WiMAX
in Urban and Suburban environments.
WaveSight was chosen for its prediction accuracy, which is measured as a reduction in calibrated model standard deviation. Other factors contributing for the selection were Wavecall’s responsiveness, positive customer support, and seamless integration of WaveSight into the planning tool deployed by Airspan.
According to Alastair Westgarth, chief technical officer of Airspan Networks, Wavecall’s willingness to collaborate with Airspan in developing new features that exploit and model Airspan’s range of WiMAX Base Stations and Client devices was an important factor in their decision.
Significantly, the WaveSight 3D model is suitable for all types of propagation environments (pico, micro and macro-cells). Also, WaveSight uses well-known and open-format interfaces.
Westgarth said that these two factors are extremely important to them.
“Accurate RF Planning is critical for the success of any network deployment, and Wavecall model allows us to set a new industry benchmark,” he added.
Karim Rizk, CEO of Wavecall said in a
press release that Airspan’s aggressive use of 3D propagation modeling in radio planning WiMAX networks and its need for high precision and accuracy in network planning were the main factors in this decision.
“Wavecall believes these factors are key to optimising site counts, controlling network costs, and reducing the expensive and damaging exercise of filling in previously unpredicted network holes/black-spots caused by poor prediction accuracy,” he concluded.
Presently, Airspan is using Ericsson’s (

Airspan is headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida with its main operations center in Uxbridge, United Kingdom. Airspan Networks provides fixed and wireless voice and data systems and solutions, including Voice Over IP (VoIP
).
Founded in 1997, Wavecall is a Swiss company solely dedicated to radio propagation prediction. Wavecall has delivered its propagation engine WaveSight to over 40 operators worldwide.
