Devicescape Software, a provider of seamless and secure WiFi connectivity, announced that it has enabled the new Slacker G2 ( News - Alert) Personal Radio with instant WiFi. Devicescape helps Slacker deliver a superior WiFi experience to its listeners by making it easy to automatically refresh music and add personal radio stations from hundreds of thousands of WiFi ( News - Alert) hotspots.
The same Slacker Personal Radio experience listened to by millions is now completely portable with the Slacker G2 Personal Radio Player. Slacker's patent-pending radio delivery network automatically downloads and continuously refreshes thousands of personally selected songs on each device, and turns them into personalized radio stations — all for free. Because the players don't have to be connected to Wi-Fi to play, Slacker G2 owners can listen to CD quality, personalized radio everywhere they go.
Whenever listeners want to update the Slacker G2, the player can connect via built-in Wi-Fi, powered by Devicescape, or USB to automatically refresh music and add stations. Devicescape automates the process of accessing WiFi hotspots, making it easy for Slacker G2 users to instantly access WiFi hotspots that normally require a password or web-based login.
"The Slacker G2 is designed to do all of the work by providing consumers with a perfect, personalized music experience wherever they are," said Jonathan Sasse vice president of marketing for Slacker. "By incorporating Devicescape into the Slacker G2, we are able to automate access to WiFi at thousands of locations — making it effortless for users to refresh their stations."
With Devicescape, device makers such as Slacker have a proven technology that gives end users unparalleled ease of use and industry leading security in managing their Wi-Fi connections. Devicescape is deployed in a variety of wireless consumer and enterprise devices, including media players and gaming consoles to PCs and Smartphones. With deep partnerships and a strong OEM customer base, Devicescape is shipping in millions of devices today.
"If it's not easy to make a WiFi connection, many consumers will simply give up and put down their device, resulting in a missed opportunity for device manufacturers and service providers," said Dave Fraser, CEO for Devicescape. "It's exciting to work with Slacker as they roll out a game-changing Personal Radio player that can offer a superior wireless user experience while simultaneously open up new business opportunities."
Slacker G2 comes in two flavors — 25 Stations with 4GB storage and 40 station with 8GB storage. The device weighs just 74 grams and can run up to 15 hours continuously.
