Powerwave Brings Wireless to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi, located in Biloxi, Mississippi, has selected Powerwave (News - Alert) Technologies to provide a wireless coverage system for its public safety communications network.

Powerwave Technologies is a global supplier of end-to-end solutions for wireless communications networks. Powerwave designs, manufactures and markets antennas, boosters, combiners, filters, repeaters, multi-carrier RF power amplifiers, tower-mounted amplifiers and advanced coverage solutions, all for use in cellular, PCS, 3G and WiMAX (News - Alert) networks throughout the world.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi was severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, only days before its scheduled grand opening. After undergoing a major renovation and rebuild, the Mississippi Gulf Coast’s most anticipated destination resort opened its doors on July 7, 2007, and has since welcomed more than two million guests.

Powerwave’s Distributed Antenna System (DAS) technology would provide wireless coverage to support first responders’ critical communications and activities within the resort.

The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi wireless system is expected to be completed this fall.

“Powerwave designed an off-the-air system for our facility, using donor antennas, compact repeaters and distributed service antennas to fulfill the FCC’s (News - Alert) 800MHz re-banding requirements, and allow us to improve communications for first responders in the event of an emergency,” said John Murphy, vice president and CIO, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi.

“Additionally, when coverage issues arose due to our facilities’ non standard finished, closed ceilings, Powerwave was able to modify the system and relocate antennas and cabling to ensure a seamless and successful installation,” added Murphy.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi is owned and operated by Premier Entertainment Biloxi. The property features a Hard Rock Casino with 1400 slot machines, 50 table games and a poker room. The Rock Spa, an Aveda Concept Spa, offers services such as facials, massages, body wraps, and nails and Merge hair salon.

Additional conveniences include fitness center, 12-story hotel with 318 rooms and suites, unique beach pool with underwater music features, Rise, the lounge located on the 12th floor of the hotel.

Hard Rock Live, accommodating over 1600 guests, has already featured outstanding performers, concerts and events including 3 Doors Down, Stevie Knicks, The Doobie Brothers, Styx, Gretchen Wilson, Hootie & The Blowfish and many more. Retail shops include the Rock Shop, Taunt, Ben & Jerry’s and Starbucks.
