SMC officials say the multi-functional solution can provide SMBs with a secure and password-protected Internet access, which can be delivered to customers as value added or individual revenue-generating services.
“The proliferation of Internet-based applications into nearly every aspect of our personal and business lives has generated the demand, and quite often the need, to be able to access the Internet whenever we need it from wherever we are in the world. For owners of businesses of all sizes, this means that providing public access to the Internet can be an incredibly powerful marketing tool, enabling them to not only draw customers to their businesses, but to keep them there for extended periods of time,” said Keith Alexis, vice president of sales for SMC.
While the SMCWHSG14-G is suitable for various businesses such as coffee shops, Internet cafes, hotel lobbies and exhibition areas, it’s also capable of providing almost 100 simultaneous wireless and wired users with a secure Internet gateway.
“This new Wireless Hotspot Gateway is an ideal solution for SMB and enterprise users alike combining the ease-of-use and setup for smaller businesses with the extensive enterprise-class feature set, including Authentication, Authorization and Accounting that larger companies demand,” Alexis said.
Barring unauthorized access to the network, the SMCWHSG14-G provides its wireless and wired clients with a security feature set inclusive of Network Address Translation firewall, Message Authentication Code address filtering, 64- and 128-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy and WiFi (News - Alert) Protected Access encryption and AAA services.
“From a value-add standpoint, providing this capability to patrons without charge can build loyalty and generate return business. From a revenue enhancement strategy, the need for customers to access a fast Internet connection can generate new income with a rapid ROI,” Alexis said.
While the SMCWHSG14-G is desktop- and wall-mountable, it supports Power over Ethernet and thus does not require a separate power supply giving its users the freedom to place it even in locations which do not have AC powers outlets.
Additional features of the Hotspot Gateway include a Parallel Operating System printer that can support ticket and receipt printing; customizable log-on and log-off pages and a portal page and advertisement Uniform Resource Locator link.
