DiVitas' CEO Talks Mobile with TMC

By Rich Tehrani, President and Editor-in-Chief

DiVitas Networks’ (News - Alert) Director of Product Management, Richard Watson, will discuss mobile communications during his two sessions, “Exploring Mobility in Unified Communications” and “Messaging and Mobile UC” at ITEXPO this September.

Founded in 2005, DiVitas mobilizes business voice and messaging applications and provides single number reach and visual voicemail through mobile deskphone capabilities in addition to enterprise contacts, messaging, and presence services.

DiVitas unifies these applications and mobilizes them under IT control, making them available on mobile devices for convenient access anytime, anywhere, over any network.
DiVitas Environment Aware (News - Alert) Roaming technology ensures quality and coverage by monitoring available Wi-Fi and cellular network connections, automatically and seamlessly moving to the most affordable network available that meets quality standards, extending coverage while reducing costs.
I had the chance to ask DiVitas Networks’ President and CEO, Vivek Khuller, several questions before the upcoming ITEXPO (News - Alert).

RT: What has been your company’s biggest achievement in 2008 so far?

VK: Getting the product to deliver functionality that supports our company’s vision and
meets our customer acceptance.

RT: What can we expect to see from your company in the next 12 months?

VK: Adoption of our product in different markets, both vertical and geographical. You will also see us scale the business through multiple channels.

RT: How do you see the communications market evolving?

VK: The mobile communications market is going to become richer in terms of the end-user experience, and access to applications on mobile handsets. We’ve already seen the strides made in the consumer market through innovations such as the iPhone (News - Alert). We will see the enterprise market evolve similarly through applications and through companies such as DiVitas, which is focused on making business-communications and productivity applications such as IM, Presence, voice and office PBX features available on mobile handsets.

RT: What company made the biggest contribution to communications this year?

VK: Nokia (News - Alert), because of the courage displayed by this company to do the right thing and release dual-mode phones across the world. These are phones that are capable of working on Wi-Fi and cellular, and both specifically support Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi). The reason this is significant is that by leveraging Wi-Fi, these dual-mode handsets can open mobile communications to the vast majority of people who are currently not mobilized.

RT: How has Google changed our markets?

VK: Because you now have maps and places of interest on your handset. Also, Google’s Android project has the potential of opening up Web-based applications on mobile handsets.

RT: How about Apple?

VK: Apple has provided the iPhone. The number one change is that they have given us really interesting consumer applications on a phone that is easy to use. They have also increased the need for consumer buying data plans so now consumers feel it’s worth their while to buy data plans. Before it was only business users buying data plans because they needed it for e-mail. But almost all iPhone apps require a data plan.

RT: What mobile phone(s) do you use?

VK:  Nokia N95 running the DiVitas Client.

RT: Who will win in an Apple/RIM war?

VK: Oh Apple will win.

RT: What do you think the communications market might look like in five years?

VK: We will see almost every one carry a smartphone for both business and personal use. The phone will become as much an entertainment and information device as a communication device. People will have ubiquitous access to their favorite applications on their phones.

RT: What will attendees learn about in your session at ITEXPO this September?

VK: They will learn how to get ubiquitous access to their business communications applications.

RT: What type of attendees do you think should come to your session?

VK: Anybody who is evaluating, or considering buying, a communications solution for business use.

RT: Why should customers choose your company’s solutions?

VK: DiVitas makes mobile workers continuously reachable by almost any means possible. DiVitas mobilizes corporate voice and messaging (deskphone, contacts, IM and Presence) for organizations by unifying these applications onto smartphones. DiVitas can run on either Wi-Fi or cellular networks or both, making users more reachable, and thus more productive. DiVitas increases continuity and employee productivity and responsiveness, an efficiency that helps lower the cost of doing business. DiVitas also leverages Wi-Fi, reducing the amount of mobile minutes spent each month. All of these benefits create an experience that is not only pleasant but also easy to use.
