Alert), Inc., a provider of mobile broadband infrastructure products, has announced the availability of the company's latest EV-DO technology, which will allow operators to accelerate the roll-out of next- generation services such as IP-based push-to-talk.
EV-DO is a wireless technology that delivers mobile Internet, multimedia and entertainment services to subscribers worldwide. According to the company, the release of the latest EV-DO technology will allow operators to deploy push-to-talk services that can meet the “most stringent performance requirements, such as uncompromising quality-of-service and sub-one-second “push-to-beep” response time, on an All-IP
mobile broadband network.”
The latest EV-DO technology is expected to help mobile operators manage their rapid broadband subscriber growth. It features the patent-pending radio network controller (RNC) clustering technology. The RNC is said to be a critical network element that manages subscriber sessions, connects users to an operator's IP network and maintains connectivity as users cross cell boundaries.
The company officials pointed out that with the availability of Airvana's RNC clustering technology, operators can efficiently scale their networks to meet the increasing subscriber demand, as RNC clustering helps subscribers avoid service interruption, especially when using delay-sensitive applications such as push- to-talk.
Also, operators can benefit by avoiding unnecessary signaling traffic typically seen in border areas of traditional RNCs. In addition, by delivering push-to-talk services on their existing EV-DO Rev A networks, officials explained that operators will be able to leverage the same mobile broadband network infrastructure that they are using to provide many other IP services.
“Any operator's success is determined by its ability to introduce the services its customers demand, and deliver an exceptional user experience, all while reducing operating costs,” David Nowicki, vice president of marketing and product management at Airvana, commented in a press release. “With our new EV-DO software, mobile operators can cost-effectively deploy and scale valuable new service offerings.”
