Motorola (News - Alert), Inc. has announced that it has received orders valued at $70 million from Celtel Nigeria, part of Zain Group, to expand and enhance the operator's GSM coverage in the Southern part of Nigeria.

 

Motorola—as part of Celtel's comprehensive network expansion strategy—will be deploying its latest Motorola Reach GSM solutions, including Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) capability for mobile data. In addition, the company will provide network expansion planning, integration, support and optimization services to Celtel, as it extends network coverage to a growing subscriber base.

 

“Celtel's aggressive growth strategy, rapid expansion and strong focus on quality make it imperative for us to work with a vendor that can provide us with high performance, reliable GSM solutions and services,” Adebayo Ligali, CEO at Celtel Nigeria, said in a press release. He added that Motorola's ability to understand his company’s business needs and also its ability to deliver superior technology and services has been central to his company’s ability to achieve its objectives.

 

Ligali said, “We are confident that Motorola will successfully support our growth so that we can continue to deliver quality voice and advanced data services to our new and existing customers.”

He also believed that the planned network expansion, which is part of Celtel's comprehensive network expansion strategy, will expand and enhance the Celtel’s cellular network with EDGE capability for the rapid provision of advanced data services to its growing customer base.

 

Amer informed that the latest orders follow orders valued at $50 million for a GSM turnkey expansion announced earlier this year, which enabled Celtel to increase its subscriber capacity and extend its coverage into new areas.
