Metrico Wireless (News - Alert) has announced the release of its Muse 2.0 testing system—which is now portable, permitting wireless players to test the voice quality of any device in the field. Additionally, wireless players can still utilize the comprehensive Muse testing capabilities in the lab.

The necessity of maintaining consistent voice quality is an ongoing challenge, and the new Muse helps customers meets that challenge. New wireless services like email, messaging and Web browsing place new demands on mobile devices, which means speech quality can often suffer.

But Muse allows any wireless player to comprehensively test voice quality, either in the lab or in the field—before the device ever gets into consumers’ hands.

“As many as half of customer complaints about wireless service are caused by handset-related problems,” said Metrico founder and president Dimitrios Topaltzas. “But, unfortunately, using standard test and measurement equipment today, wireless players can’t test the network using the latest and most popular handsets. Muse provides the missing link for wireless engineers by enabling them to comprehensively test the speech and audio quality of any wireless device real-time in the field or in the lab.”

Muse allows engineers to plug any handset into its hardware box in order test speech quality. The other end of the box plugs into a laptop, which analyzes audio quality and displays it in a very user-friendly report.

The Muse system supports such wireless technologies as CDMA, GSM, UMTS, WiMAX (News - Alert) and UMA, and can be used for analyzing any kind of telephony device. It’s also affordable enough to permit wireless players to equip all of their engineers with the tool.
