CalAmp (News - Alert) has launched the ViPR Wireless IP Router/Modem that enables true end-to-end wireless Ethernet connectivity over licensed spectrum in VHF or UHF frequencies for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications.

 

The ViPR is the industry’s first integrated end-to-end wireless Ethernet product for narrowband licensed spectrum. Since the solution overcomes limitations of traditional non-licensed spectrum devices such as range or susceptibility to interference it is ideal for SCADA, Telemetry and other critical data communication applications.

 

CalAmp’s new release boasts higher receive sensitivity in narrowband installations, data rates of up to 32 kbps over a 25 kHz channel and higher RF Transmit output power of up to 10W. This makes it the perfect choice for industrial wireless Ethernet connectivity. In addition to a Web-based interface for ease-of-use and ease-of-installation, the ViPR includes remote configuration capabilities.

 

“As our second generation narrowband IP radio, the ViPR is designed for applications requiring reliable and true end-to-end IP communications, particularly over larger distances,” said Michael Burdiek, president of CalAmp’s Wireless DataCom Division in a statement.

He points out that the introduction of the ViPR further extends their wireless product offering for the Industrial Monitoring and Control market in line with their commitment to deliver the most reliable and widest range of wireless data products for M2M communications.

 

CalAmp made news last month when its Dataradio operating unit signed a contract with the City of Shreveport, Louisiana to construct a mobile data network to be used by first responders within the surrounding Caddo Parish.
