Robokiller Insights Finds Robotexts Remain Problematic

By Stefania Viscusi December 22, 2023

Robotexts reached 13.9 billion in November 2023, marking an 8% increase from the previous month, according to the latest insights from Robokiller. Unlike what was observed in 2022 during the same timeframe, when robotexts were flooding in on consumers, this year's surge features a notable reduction in spam texts which shows brands are listening and finding new ways to entice potential customers.

During the holiday season last year, brands were often sending tons of marketing texts looking for a way to capitalize on holiday shopping. In 2023 they’re being more careful about what customers no longer will tolerate. Instead, most are opting to spend time sending more personalized messaging.

Robokiller is a spam call and text blocker app that utilizes advanced AI and machine learning to identify and block potentially harmful calls in 0.01 seconds. This, according to the company, has prevented over 1 billion phone scams and saved consumers a staggering $700 million to date.

Even though marketers cooled it on the texts, they still saw increased sales from Black Friday (News - Alert) this year - up by 7.5% compared to 2022.

Despite this shift though, consumer losses due to phone scams are still happening. Scammers today are employing sophisticated tactics, such as fake charity donation requests, cryptocurrency scams, and advanced AI schemes that mimic the voices of family members to deceive individuals and they have proven effective, with consumers already losing $65B to robocall scams in 2023.

To combat spam texts, RoboKiller recommends the following tips:

  • Opt-out: Unsubscribe from legitimate mailing lists by replying "STOP," ensuring the number is genuine.
  • Block the number: If a specific number consistently sends spam, block it through the phone's settings.
  • Report spam texts: Forward suspicious texts to 7726 (SPAM), email ReportFraud.ftc.gov, or inform your cell carrier.
  • Download Robokiller: Fully protect yourself from spammers and scammers with the best spam text blocker app.
