Infonetics Predicts Recovery for EMEA Optical Network Hardware Market

The 2010 edition of the Optical Network Hardware in EMEA: Europe, Middle East, and Africa report was released by Infonetics (News - Alert) Research, a market research and consulting firm serving the communications industry since 1990.

In a release, Andrew Schmitt who is the directing analyst for optical at Infonetics Research noted, "While Alcatel-Lucent is the market share leader for the overall EMEA region, Huawei (News - Alert) is the leader in every sub-region except Western Europe. Huawei is especially well positioned in the fastest growing sub-region, Central and Eastern Europe."

The EMEA region includes Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. SDH or synchronous digital hierarchy and WDM or wave division multiplexing optical hardware for metro and long haul networks sold by vendors in the EMEA region are tracked by
Infonetics' Optical Network Hardware in EMEA report. Vendor market share, market size, and forecasts through 2014 by country and region are provided by the service.

Companies like ADVA, Alcatel-Lucent, BTI, Canoga Perkins, Ciena, Cisco, Cyan, ECI, Ekinops (News - Alert), Ericsson, Fujitsu and Huawei are tracked in the report. Other companies also tracked in the report include Infinera, MRV, NEC, Nokia Siemens, Nortel, Sorrento, Sycamore, Tejas, Tellabs (News - Alert), Transmode, Turin, Tyco, Xtera and ZTE.

A 12 percent revenue gain for the EMEA optical network hardware market is forecasted in 2010 over 2009 by Infonetics. This gain is led by incumbent investment in telco. The spending recovery in Western Europe and strong growth in metro WDM for wireless backhaul in Central and Eastern Europe will drive the long term growth in EMEA optical network hardware market.

Other factors which will drive this long term growth include the access network deployments in the Middle East, a shift toward WDM and away from SDH in Africa. With more IP interconnectivity and submarine line terminal equipment also known as SLTE, there will be a healthy growth in ling haul WDM which will also affect the growth in EMEA optical network hardware market. The largest optical network hardware market in the EMEA region is Western Europe, while the markets in Central and Eastern Europe are the fastest-growing.
