GIA Predicts Increased Demand for Personal Computers

A global outlook on the personal computer industry has been released by Global Industry Analysts, Inc. The research report has been titled, “Personal Computers (PCs): A Global Outlook.” Developing countries are predicted to emerge as viable hubs for future growth opportunities as the market for PCs is maturing in most of these countries. Replacements and upgrades will be the main reasons for growth in the developed markets.

Every sphere of modern day activity has been enveloped by PCs with their sheer magnitude of multiple applications, transforming the way people conduct business. The current common tools of business and personal life include notebook PCs, personal digital assistants, desktop PCs and tablet PCs.

The primary sources of revenues for the world PC industry are laptop and notebook computers. Desktop PCs are increasingly being outpaced by notebook personal computers across the world in terms of features, computing power and price. As compared to desktop PCs, up to 90 percent less energy is consumed by laptops. Apart from the shrinking price difference between a desktop and laptop over the entire product lifecycle, energy costs are rising. Laptops are therefore a cost-effective solution from a total cost of ownership perspective. The increasing popularity of consumer models is further fuelling the growth of notebook computer shipments.

The way people think about the mobile broadband and Internet is being changed with Netbooks. Consumers can access photos, video, music, and much more on-the-go. Developers are bringing connectivity to the masses by combining the affordability of netbooks with cost-effective mobile broadband solutions. Volumes sales of traditional notebook computers will be therefore outpaced by netbook PCs.

Enterprise and non-enterprise users have termed sophistication and mobility as a priority. Companies will create products that reflect these priorities as consumers continue to embrace the digital lifestyle. As consumers continue to seek consumer electronic products they can use anywhere, anytime, portable computer systems will be in demand in the coming years.

The global market for personal computers is dominated by Asia-Pacific. Over the years 2010 through 2015, the market is expected to grow at a healthy CAGR of 11.3 percent.
