The Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group 5-Year Forecast Report offers a complete overview of the microwave transmission industry and the newly published report projects that the point-to-point microwave transmission market is all set to exceed $6 billion by 2015.
According to the report, demand for mobile backhaul is expected to trigger an increase in radio transceiver shipments, which is expected to touch nearly three million units.
In a press release, Jimmy Yu, sr. director of microwave transmission research at Dell'Oro Group said, "The transition away from TDM is underway, driving a strong demand for Ethernet-based microwave links for mobile backhaul.”
He added, "We're forecasting Ethernet-based hybrid and packet links to grow at an average annual rate of 20 percent a year until transceiver shipments reach 3 million units in 2015. We think this growth will be driven by a mobile network upgrade to 4G radio technologies that consume four to five times the backhaul capacity of 3G, and the proliferation of new entrants building cell sites to deliver mobile broadband services.”
Demand for microwave equipment is forecast to increase in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and during the forecast period, about half of the revenue is expected to materialize from these regions.
