Opnet Technologies Acquires Clarus Systems to Strengthen Efforts in Network Performance

In an age of distributed workplaces, Unified Communications technologies are becoming increasingly important for the enterprises to enjoy flawless IP voice and video communications. OPNET Technologies Inc (News - Alert)., an industry icon in network performance management, has announced a new acquisition that will allow the company to address issues relating to the implementation of voice services over a converged network.
 
OPNET Technologies has successfully completed the acquisition of Redwood City, California-based Clarus Systems, Inc. The acquisition will allow OPNET Technologies to further expand its footprint in the arena of application and network performance management. Financial terms were not disclosed.

 
A company known for end-to-end service management for Enterprise Voice over IP (VoIP), Unified Communications (News - Alert) and TelePresence video, Clarus has an impressive clientele in Global 100 enterprises in multiple sectors. These include financial, healthcare, energy and communications, as well as system integrators and the managed service industry.
 
Clarus' award-winning solution suite, ClarusIPC Plus+, maximizes service performance and availability through automated testing, performance monitoring, configuration management and business intelligence reporting.
 
OPNET Chairman and CEO, Marc Cohen, explained that when voice services are implemented over a converged network, they are to be managed by a powerful management solution, capable of comprehensively testing, monitoring and troubleshooting the entire infrastructure and its configuration, in the interest of flawlessness and consistent availability.
 
ClarusIPC is unique in its ability to address these requirements, according to Cohen. As a result of the acquisition of ClarusIPC, OPNET will be expand its capabilities in this area and incorporate Clarus offerings into its portfolio.
 
OPNET will deliver the acquired solutions via partners and managed service providers. This is believed to help grow the company's expanding channel program.

Opnet recently announced that revenue for the fourth fiscal quarter ending March 31 was $44.6 million, compared to $41.1 million for the same quarter in the prior fiscal year.
