Cisco Systems (News - Alert) has acquired privately held BroadWare Technologies, a provider of IP-based video surveillance software. BroadWare’s software helps users record and store audio and video and eventually access them anywhere.

With the acquisition, Cisco customers will have access to live and recorded surveillance video for faster investigation response and event resolution. The BroadWare acquisition complements Cisco’s video surveillance product offering, providing smooth transition from analog surveillance video to a digital network solution.

The product offering uses the IP network as a platform to converge applications. Thus, companies can easily integrate and synchronize video with other safety and security systems as well as other business tools. The acquisition demonstrates new innovative capabilities to be delivered, maximizing the value of live and recorded surveillance video.

According to the news release, BroadWare Technologies will help Cisco provide this value to its customers across different environments including commercial and enterprise branch offices, campus/headquarters and large public sector applications.

With the acquisition, the BroadWare team and product portfolio become part of Cisco’s Emerging Technologies Group, reporting into Marthin De Beer, Senior Vice President.
