Vonage and Verizon in Court This Week Over VoIP Infringement![]() TMCnet Contributing Editor VoIP
Verizon is yet to specify the monetary compensation it seeks for the damages in the suit, however, the telecom is certainly after stopping Vonage (News - Alert) from further utilizing the technologies it lists as being infringed. In a USA TODAY news report, Brooke Schulz, a Vonage spokeswoman, addressed the topic of a possible service shut down following an unfavorable lawsuit decision for the provider: "Customers shouldn't worry. We're working on a redesign plan." Vonage currently serves a reported 2 million customers, a considerable chunk of the more than 8 million users nationwide.
Vonage contests that its service is comprised of a bundle of its own proprietary technology and technology licensed from third parties.
