Alcatel (News - Alert)-Lucent has agreed to strengthen its ongoing collaboration with NXP Semiconductors within the framework of its Unlimited Mobile TV system. The move will allow the delivery of broadcast mobile TV in the S-band (2.2GHz)—based on the DVB-SH standard.

The new agreement calls for NXP's suite of reception modules for UHF and L-Band to be extended to the S-Band. This will enable users to upgrade their existing portable devices such as media players, smartphones in order to support digital Mobile TV reception in the S-Band.

NXP is currently developing the first release of its S-Band-compatible Radio Frequency (RF) chipset. The company expects to release the chipset before June, and market it with Alcatel-Lucent following its release.

Alcatel-Lucent has had an impressive month so far. Indeed, the company has announced a great number of deals including one just this morning with Orange Business Services which will enable the companies to work together in order to speed up the global adoption of IP-based communications systems in an effort to transform businesses' networks.

Orange and Alcatel-Lucent have agreed to provide businesses with a suite of end-to-end services supported from design to global implementation, including business telephony services, IP VPNs, fixed-mobile convergence systems, Unified Communication software applications and contact centers with multimedia traffic processing.
