Just two months after the launch of video site, Yahoo Screen, Yahoo! is now announcing a new comedy channel, free to all users.

The comedy channel will open with a big bang showing a first-ever, live, online broadcast of “CrazyStupidPolitics: Bill Maher Live from Silicon Valley.” The performance is set to take place on Feb. 23, 2012 at the San Jose Performing Center.

“I’m excited to be doing something new in bringing a live stand up show to a Web giant like Yahoo!,” said Maher. “It is my goal to make people say ‘Oh no he di’int’ in every medium on earth.”

Yahoo Screen went live in Oct. with eight shows aimed predominantly towards women. Within its first month there were already nearly 10 million streams. “Many people already turn to the Internet to watch their favorite TV shows when and where it’s convenient for them. Now Yahoo! [with Yahoo Screen] is giving its users more of what they want,” said Yahoo in a blog post.

Yahoo! said it is a top destination online for comedy with a 1 billion streams of its original programming to-date. “Bill Maher is a groundbreaking event, not only for Yahoo and Bill but for the Internet as the first-ever, live, free broadcast online,” said Eric McPherson, vice president and head of Yahoo! Video. “We are focusing on fresh, original voices like Bill and our other original programs with the Yahoo! Comedy Channel to continue to provide our customers and advertisers with the best premium content on the Web.”

In an article for New York Times Bill Maher stated the new Yahoo! Comedy Channel is like a “new sales territory.” Maher also noted its importance on reaching fans he couldn’t otherwise.

“I did the Beacon Theater in New York last month [and] it sold out really quickly, people were asking me for tickets,” said Maher adding, “I want to do my act so that millions of people, not just thousands at a time, can see it.”

Yahoo! Comedy Channel will also offer short videos from Saturday Night Live television show writer Mike O’Brien, Seth Morris from “Step Brothers” and content from partners, such as Funny or Die.

The channel’s line up of shows to start is:

• “First Dates with Toby Harris” from Funny or Die featuring Seth Morris. The show is described as a series that takes on a journey of ill-fated first dates of always single Toby Harris.
• “7 Minutes in Heaven” from Mike O’Brien who will be playing a host who invites celebrities into his closet for intimate conversations.
• “Sketchy” from Principato Young/Electus as a weekly sketch featuring stand alone, topical comedy shorts written and directed by famous comdians.
• “Hackerazzi” from David Morgasen, a director known for his online videos like “David Blaine Street Magic” spoofs and “Obama-McCain Dance-off.”
