There is no doubt that families of military personnel make many sacrifices and face a number of challenges as a result of one of their own serving in the armed forces. One of the challenges is employment.
Certainly, large numbers of Americans are faced with unemployment in these trying economic times, but the immediate family, in particular the spouse, of someone who is serving in the military, may find it even more difficult to find work due to the circumstances unique to the military lifestyle.
One of the nation’s oldest privately held teleservices agencies, DialAmerica, which says it has been in the business of teleservices for more than 50 years, has stepped up to address the challenges of unemployed spouses of military personnel and has partnered with the Military Spouse Employment Partnership.
In its announcement today, DialAmerica said that effective immediately it is now bringing “career opportunities directly to military families across the country.” Its participation in the Military Spouse Employment means that the employment opportunities at its 20+ contact centers that are located all across the United States will be accessible to military families.
“DialAmerica has always supported military families and we are honored to partner with MSEP to offer much needed career options for the spouses of those serving our nation,” said Art Conway, president and CEO of DialAmerica. “Our multiple locations across the country allow military families to easily transfer within our system and we always work with the families to offer flexible schedules to meet military and family needs.”
Since those who serve in the military are routinely transferred to new posts, their spouses are faced with constantly needing to look for new employment in the private sector at the new locations. Recognizing this, the MSEP was formed to help “connect military spouses with career opportunities.” It now has more than 70 partners, including DialAmerica, and reports that it continually expands its partner base. It serves spouses of all service branches- the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard- and is available to active duty as well as guard and reserve spouses.
Among the attributes it found laudable in DialAmerica and applicable to its program is DialAmerica’s provision of flexible, “family-friendly” work scheduling and transferability—DialAmerica said military spouses can “seamlessly transfer from one contact center to another” should relocation become a reality to their family. Other benefits MSEP found in partnering with DialAmerica include the fact that it offers not only many job opportunities, but growth opportunities which it encourages its military spouse employees to pursue. Finally, DialAmerica offers something military spouses would especially appreciate: it allows them to maintain a service accrual record should they need to leave and later return to their jobs.
DialAmerica encourages military families who are interested in job opportunities to visit and the MSEP website to learn even more about the employment opportunities available.
