PCmag.com reports that Android and Windows Phone 7 operating systems (OS) based smartphone maker HTC (News - Alert) is thinking about acquiring a new mobile OS. This plan was revealed by HTC chairwoman who told Economic Observer of China.

Speaking to Economic Observer of China, HTC’s chairwoman and co-founder Cher Wang, said,"We have given it thought and we have discussed it internally, but we will not do it on impulse", “At the same time, she said one of HTC's advantages was its ability to "use any OS we want" and "understand" any operating system.”

According to PCmag.com, HTC launched the first Android (News - Alert) smartphone, the HTC Dream (marketed on T-Mobile as the G1) in 2008. It has also announced its first Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango" smartphones for the U.S. market, the Radar and Titan with AT&T.

Meanwhile, with Google’s (News - Alert) acquisition of Motorola in August, it will be interesting to see how other Android manufacturers react to this deal, wrote OCmag.com. Also, to lessen the dependence on Android, market watchers are speculating that Samsung or HTC will acquire HP's webOS or Intel's MeeGo, as per the report. However, according to PCmag.com, Samsung has denied the webOS rumor and is investigating MeeGo because Nokia, which co-developed MeeGo with Intel in 2010, has migrated to Windows Phone 7.

Speaking with caution, Wang told the Economic Observer that Motorola (News - Alert)-Google deal could go beyond patents as echoed by Google's CEO Eric Schmidt.  PCmag.com wrote that Google is now considering branding its phones with Motorola's name.

The HTC chairwoman also praised Nokia's ability to evolve from a successful feature phone giant to a smartphone manufacturer. "I admire Nokia," she told Economic Observer. "It has a very strong brand."

In February, Nokia struck a strategic partnership with Microsoft to develop smartphones with Windows Phone 7 platform.

Also, last week, using five patents obtained from Google, HTC amended a patent infringement lawsuit against Apple, wrote PCmag.com
