Technology of the Future Makes Life Easier: News Report

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

Technology in a dozen years is expected to anticipate some of users’ needs and unique tastes quicker than they can.

In a look at the future, Digital Trends offered what analysts see in their crystal balls.

The new world of technology will find that sensors will be embedded into many things, maybe even people, Mike Ueland, a vice president at Telit, which makes M2M sensors, told Digital Trends.

Or how about washing machines that can identify a red sock from a white sock and let the user know, asks Digital Trends. Urlich Eberl, a senior director at Siemens AG, said the machine will operate only when energy costs are the least expensive.

In addition, a TV will be able to sense when a viewer enters a room and play his/her favorite program, says Digital Trends. It will do so by using facial recognition and body-shape tracking sensors.

Intel (News - Alert) is working on telemedicine that would mean patients no longer have to visit a doctor for a diagnosis. Instead, the doctor will talk to and inspect a patient during a video call, Digital Trends explains.

Also, MicroVision is working with a carmaker to develop a color screen that would appear on a dashboard or windshield to give the weather forecast, help in navigation or show a movie, according to Digital Trends.

Near-field communication, too, will let phones pay for services and products, Digital Trends adds.

And self-driving cars will be used on many roads, says Digital Trends. That will let the user check emails, texts, etc. Proponents say they will reduce pollution and reduce the number of fatalities caused by human error, according to a report on TMCnet.

Already, Microsoft’s (News - Alert) Kinect gives a preview of future technology, Rick Chin, the director of innovation at SolidWorks, a product design software company, told Digital Trends. Kinect lets users control movies and music with a hand wave or a spoken word, the company said.
