How to Run a COVID-19 Secure Event

The successful rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine has resulted in restaurants returning to normal service, nightclubs reopening, and the launch of various fun-filled events.

If you’re organising an upcoming event, whether it be a music festival or business seminar, you’ll be looking to create a safe environment for all guests and employees.

Protect everyone’s health and wellbeing by reading the following advice on how to run a COVID-19 secure event.

Complete a Health and Safety Risk Assessment

The first step you must take is to complete a health and safety risk assessment.

For instance, if you expect a large number of guests, you must put crowd management measures in place to prevent transmission as much as possible.

Display the NHS QR Code

While businesses are no longer required to gather customers’ information upon arrival, you must display the NHS QR code for those who would like to check-in via the app.

It will allow attendees to receive a notification if they come into contact with someone who receives a positive COVID-19 test.

However, you are no longer legally required to turn a guest away if they don’t use the app.

Organise a Pre- and Post-Event Cleaning Service

A pre-event cleaning service will create a spotless environment for your guests and employees, which will provide peace of mind that they are less likely to come into contact with COVID-19.

It will eliminate all forms of bacteria on-site, ensuring a clean, hygienic space.

Professional event cleaning technicians can clean all areas of a venue, from a marquee and stage to the bar and toilets.

Introduce the NHS COVID Pass

While event organisers aren’t legally required to do so, they can attempt to reduce transmission by introducing the NHS COVID Pass.

The pass is for those who have a lower risk of carrying or transmitting COVID-19 due to vaccination, natural immunity or testing.

Visitors can prove they have the NHS COVID Pass via the NHS app, NHS website, an NHS letter, or an email or text message with confirmed test results.

Communicate Safety Information

Encourage all attendees to follow social distancing and good hygiene practices by communicating safety information throughout the event.

For example, you could incorporate signage regarding safety measures and run various audio announcements. You can encourage people to wash their hands, remain a safe distance from others and wear face coverings to reduce transmission.

While face coverings are no longer required by law, they are still recommended in crowded or enclosed environments.

Improve Ventilation Indoors

If you’re running an indoor event, you must aid ventilation throughout the venue by opening all windows, doors and vents.

By improving airflow in poorly ventilated spaces, you can improve the level of safety by creating an airy, safe and hygienic environment for attendees and employees.

Plus, it will prove you have taken every possible step to maintain their safety throughout the event.

By ensuring that these measures are in place, you can ensure that all guests are confident that you’re making an effort to keep them safe and provide a fun event.
