The Technology Changing How People Move and Transport Things From Point A To Point B

The history of transport is long and complex and though automobiles have eased mobility from point A to point B. There is still far to go to making it safer and easier to move our stuff around.  One of the bright sports are urban cities continue to revolutionize and create a sustainable transport network systems.

The Top Technologies Changing Transport as We Know It

Technology has given rise to new and improved ways of how people travel. Here is a look at some redefining technologies which have changed the way we move and get from point A and point Z and everywhere in between.

  • Autonomous vehicles.

It’s not just piano movers that are turning things around for the transport industry. Self-driving cars are finally here. Although most of them are not fully, self-driving experts believe that these cars will change the transportation industry forever.

Major Automakers such as Tesla, Google and Uber continue to revolutionize transport. While some believe that mass production of autonomous vehicles will cause problems – including traffic, the cost of buying and insurance – it’s no secret that they are the answer to the world’s increasing population.

Having said that, autonomous vehicles are still from perfect, and there have been reports of casualties. Tesla’s semi-automatic cars have themselves been in the news at times.

Experts continue to make adjustments which will counter all these underlying problems. A car such as a LiDar Laser already has a miniature version which is quite affordable.

  • Connected vehicles.

Since Morse typed his first telegraph in 1838, people have been interested in connectivity. The ever-increasing innovation in technology which has brought smartphones and the internet has made the world into a global village.

Cars used to be insulators from the outside world. However, there is a rising demand for cars which have connectivity features.

In 2025 most of the cars you see on the road will be self-driving cars. Thus manufacturers are under pressure to produce cars with Internet features which will ensure people stay connected. For instance, Ford (News - Alert) uses technology which lets a driver use hands-free phone calls, control entertainment and navigation.

  • Electric Driver train.

More and more countries are continuing to adopt electric drive trains. This can be attributed to the fact that fossil fuel driven trains pollute the environment. Electric driver trains have proven to be fast, convenient and compact.

It is estimated that low carbon electricity will be more efficient than fossil fuel. The later will become more expensive. For instance, Tesla’s dual AC-induction motors on the Model SD produce 691 horsepower.

  • Efficient multimodal network.

Multimodal transport combines all modes of transport to leverage their advantages with the aim of inducing a better transport network. The popularity of the multimodal network can be attributed due to transfer cost savings, save time and enhance transport organization.

In the recent years, cars have been able to integrate an efficient multimodal network system. For instance,  driver's efficiency has been improved, transparency in the public sector, crowdsourcing and use of smartphones to get tickets.

  • Collaborative  Consumption.

The emergence of collaborative consumption has changed the way the market works. Millennials who set the trend are less willing to buy cars because of collaborative consumption. This can be attributed to the availability of car rental services.

A company like Uber helps you get in touch with a driver very quickly. As long as you have an app, it is fast and convenient since a driver can pick you at wherever you are. However, with the emergence of Uber and other car apps taxi drivers have complained major losses in their industry. For instance, in San Francisco and New York, there are already mass protests.

Research has it that millennials rarely make big purchases. Yet, Uber and Airbnb have come to provide more convenient solutions to this generation. You do not need to worry about speeding tickets, traffic or parking. This is the generation that will change things.

  • New Automotive materials.

New automotive materials, innovative parts used during manufacturing and automated assemblies are changing the future of transport. Cars of the past mostly constituted steel-based products. However, the cars of today are now transitioning towards aluminium, magnesium and composite materials to deliver maximum performance.

Due to market standards, these new materials are safe, cost-effective and easy to commercialize. However, achieving this standard is not as easy as it seems. Most cars which are on the road have not adapted to these new materials.

3D printing has also changed the way vehicles are being designed. It offers manufacturers a chance to develop prototypes and full-scale parts. Although they are a bit complex they are can be formed during moulding.

Automotive assemblers have also changed the game when it comes to assembling parts. This includes adhesives, rivets, bolting, laser spot welding, flow drill screws and laser welded blanks.

Which of these technologies are you looking forward to the most?
