Arsenal Expected to Return to the Top Four in 2017/2018

Arsenal has made the adjustments they need to the squad to make their return to the top flight of Premier League competition in the 2017/2018 season. However, the contracts between Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil yet to have been settled, with both players seemingly unwilling to extend their contracts.

The arrival of Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee of GBP 52 million, has many Arsenal fans frothing at the prospect of more goals in the coming season. Departing the club are Emiliano Martinez, Yaya Sanogo, and Wojciech Szczesny.

Arsene Wenger has stated to the media that various young players are nearing the end of their contract terms and this will inspire them to deliver better performances this season. Arsenal fans hope that the players will not decide to depart the club for greener pastures but, with the season just getting off to a start, anything is possible.

Wenger has taken much verbal abuse from fans over social media and at press conferences after last season’s failure to achieve a Champions League spot. With the manager reaching the end of his career, he seems desperate to find some form with the team that can reproduce Arsenals tenure as the undefeated champions that won the league over a decade ago.

Wenger seems like a new man practicing new principles, resisting the urge to sign or sell players reaching the end of their contract term. Wenger has always seen his primary responsibility as raising and building the Arsenal team of the future. However, his failure to do so has sparked major criticism from fans and industry experts that suggest the Arsenal boss is no longer fit to lead the team.

With Arsenal getting off to a good start in their opening games, the manager seems poised to keep his promise on a return to the top flight of English Premier League football, and the Champions League. Wenger seems willing to take on more risk this season in an attempt to achieve the best result for short term success with the team before his tenure at the club comes to an end.

In other club news, Jens Lehmann has returned to the Arsenal training ground as a first team coach. Wenger looks forward to him delivering vital knowledge to the team from his days between the posts as the Arsenal goalie. Lehmann brings experience and knowledge into the team that Wenger feels will be instrumental is seizing control of the top four position. Wenger seems to do all he can to give his team the best start possible this season.

Retaining his top players, Ozil and Sanchez will be very challenging if the club is not well on its way to the top tier by the time their contracts expire. Losing both Sanchez and Ozil will be detrimental to the success of the club in the 208/2019 season and make their return to the top four an even greater challenge.

The club failed to sign the number one transfer prospect KylianMbappe. However, the signing of Alexandre Lacazette, who has scored a staggering 88 goals for country and club in three seasons, will hopefully supply much-needed firepower at the front. The move should decrease the pressure on Alexis Sanchez, who was the man carrying the team scoring efforts last season.

Sead Kolašinac brings some added strength to the back four, with his competency on the left back position and his ability further up the field on the left side, securing Arsenal’s weakness at the back. Nothing has been said about a possible return of the long-forgotten Santi Carzola, with his injury from last season still holding back his return to the club.

Arsenal look set for a cracking 2017/2018 season, with more drama to unfold in the January transfer window. Hopefully, they give the fans something to cheer for and a successful return to the Champions League.
