Spammy Tweets Advertise Weight Loss

By Juliana Kenny, TMCnet Web Editor

Warning to all Twitter (News - Alert) users today: Watch your tweets carefully! There is a spammy hacker going around issuing tweets from random accounts with the words, "Get the beach body you've always wanted, now you can with this weight loss supplement.”

The spam tweet then links to a dietary supplement called Acai Berry, which has recently risen through the ranks of weight loss fads to attract attention from celebrities and thusly become popular with us laywomen and men.

Twitter officials are currently unaware of the spammer’s origins, or how to get a hold of the source of the tweets, but a resolution is expected shortly. In the meantime, Twitter users are signaled to watch their accounts closely, especially those users who issue large amounts of tweets a day.

Even if the message issued from your account is not linked to the Acai Berry dietary supplement advertised, or the weight loss message, change your password immediately.

The number of spammy messages issued already indicates that users’ passwords have been stolen, so extra caution cannot be overlooked.
