Sonus Networks Signs Agreement with Westcon Group to Distribute SBCs to US Government

By Clayton Hamshar, Contributing Writer

Sonus Networks, Inc., a global leader in enabling and securing real-time communications, announced this week that Westcon Group (News - Alert), a global distributor of security, Unified Communications (UC), network infrastructure and data center solutions, will distribute Sonus’ line of Session Border Controllers (SBCs) to customers in the U.S. government. With this agreement Sonus SBCs are now available to both civilian and Department of Defense agencies through IT Schedule 70 of Westcon’s General Services Administration (GSA (News - Alert)) program, which is the most prevalent acquisition vehicle used by the federal government.

Sonus’ solutions enable real-time communications, such as Voice over IP (VoIP) and video, to deliver high quality calling and value-added features such as least-cost routing and advanced network security. The company offers a wide range of SBCs, from virtualized instances to hardware-based devices that can support as many as 150,000 concurrent SIP sessions. They support Microsoft Lync, Broadsoft and other UC environments out-of-the-box and as well as HD voice services and SIP trunking.

“Through Westcon, government agencies can now conveniently procure Sonus solutions as they seek to secure and enable voice and video communications,” said John Winters, Vice President of Sales at Sonus and President of Sonus Federal. “Sonus has built a strong partnership with Westcon and the reseller agreement with the Westcon Group ensures that our government customers receive pre-negotiated pricing with all of the appropriate Federal Acquisition Regulation clauses included.”

With Westcon’s GSA program, government agencies are able to purchase IT products without enduring the lengthy bidding process that is usually necessary. Sonus’ SBCs have joined a broad range of offered IT solutions and can be purchased at pre-negotiated prices and terms through this reseller agreement.

“Westcon and Sonus have had a strong commercial relationship in place for a number of years,” said Brenda Reynolds, Director of Government Programs at Westcon Group. “Sonus’ market-leading SBC products − combined with our expertise in government purchasing, logistics and pricing − create a very compelling proposition for meeting the VoIP and Unified Communications (News - Alert) needs of the government. Our extensive reseller program adds even more value by providing focused partners on every voice and Unified Communications project.”
