snom's 715 Phone Meets Needs of Enterprises

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

snom took advantage of ITEXPO (News - Alert) Miami to announce the new 715 phone – ideal for the enterprise.

The 715 is a desk phone. It features a Gigabit switch and USB port. That gives it options for additional connections, such as via a wireless local area network (WLAN). It also has the business telephony features enterprises need daily. Examples are five function keys with LEDs, and four context-sensitive function keys. It has wideband HD audio and power over Ethernet, as well.

“Its claim to fame is that it’s a gigabit phone at an entry level price of $139 (MSRP, list price),” Michael Storella, vice president Americas of snom technology, told TMC’s (News - Alert) Paul Bernier. “It also has a USB port in it which can be used either for Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth dongle for a headset.”

“It’s a great phone … for the enterprise market, where you need to have a gigabit phone for the desktop,” Storella added. It is part of the line of phones in snom’s 7xx series, which include the 710, 720 and 760.

“This is an IP desktop phone for businesses with big needs but small budgets,” Storella said in an earlier statement. “Gigabit Ethernet is typically a hallmark of more expensive phones.”

“With the snom 715, we are continuing our push to drive snom’s high quality SIP endpoints into every corner of the business market,” he added.

In addition, the 715 comes at a time where there is more demand in the market among enterprises for gigabit phones. “Clearly, people are upgrading their networks … and they need to have a phone that will allow gigabit to be passed through to their desktop PC,” Storella said.

snom was many of many tech companies attending ITEXPO, with many of its partners showing up there as well. These included both customers and technical partners – from the United States, Latin America and South America. Shortly after the show, snom announced how its PA1 public address system was named 2014 Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Product of the Year by TMC.
