Noction's IRP 2.0 Enhances BGP Performance

By Frank Griffin, TMCnet Contributing Writer

The intelligent routing platform that Noction has developed gives organizations a platform to improve Border Gateway (News - Alert) Protocol (BGP) performance by 30 to 50 percent. It also automates the routing optimization processes so companies can focus on their core competencies instead of dealing with network related issues. Recently, the company released its Intelligent Routing Platform 2.0, which provides improved performance, speed and usability enhancements in a stable release.

Version 2.0 includes new routing policies with a revised performance evaluation mechanism and an overhauled user interface. The navigation improvements on the dashboard, reports and graphs are easier to read and provide improved system configuration forms and controls.

According to the company, the routing policies feature is the most important upgrade in the new release. This upgrade gives network administrators the ability to allow or deny specific providers to be used for reaching certain prefix or AS, or set a static route. It is able to meet internal routing policies with better capabilities for route control as well.

Further, the probing mechanism of the new IRP 2.0 has been fully reworked to evaluate network performance metrics such as latency and packet loss. It improves overall system performance by probing available routing paths up to 10 times faster with more efficiency.

The improvement of the new release also includes providing reliable information about the state of the BGP sessions with the connected ISPs and network reachability through a specific provider by improving BGP monitoring algorithms. On the other hand, the security improvements seen within this platform offer more protection of the data submitted using the system's front end and anytime options for administrator credentials for password updates and password resets.

Last but not least, IRP is able to reduce costs for organizations by helping them to make the best choice when teaming with a transit provider whenever it is possible. It assists them in selecting less expensive providers and only chooses those that are more expensive when it is necessary in order to meet performance requirements. With price ranges that can go as high as $10/Mbps, this process can save millions of dollars for organizations with large amounts of Gbps traffic.

"It is imperative for us to continuously improve the platform by carefully listening to our customers’ requests. With IRP 2.0 we’re keeping up with the industry’s performance demands by offering new features and enhancements of the existing ones," said Noction’s President Grigore Raileanu, in a statement.
