HP recently introduced a new "one-stop shop" technology solution aimed at small and medium-sized (SMB) customers called HP SMB IT in a Box (News - Alert). This may not seem like an unusual move for the company, which offers a number of business solutions, but here's the twist: this solutions relies heavily on a partnership with Google (News
- Alert).
As a PC manufacturer, one would expect HP to go with a Windows-based approach, but HP SMB IT in a Box leverages HP's entry into the Google Apps Reseller program to combine existing HP hardware — such as PCs and printers — with Google Apps for Business, Google's Office 365 competitor. This solution relies on HP's unique management software layer and minimal setup to simplify customers' IT environment, as well as help reduce operating costs and infrastructure requirements.
"HP recognizes the constantly evolving needs of SMB customers in today's dynamic business environment," said Ron Coughlin, senior vice president and general manager, Consumer PCs and Solutions, HP. "Together with HP's channel partners, we will offer our customers an incredible bundle of PCs, printers and Google Apps for Business, enabling business owners to focus on their customers instead of worrying about IT."
As of now, HP SMB IT in a Box is only in its initial phase and as such it will grow and expand over time to encompass "all the technologies SMBs need to win in the marketplace," according to HP. Specifically, the solutions will come to include integrated consoles for resellers, IT administrators and end users, providing easy access to the solution in its entirety.
HP SMB IT in a Box will ultimately be offered by way of HP's broad network of reseller partners, but the initial offering will only be available to select resellers in the United States next month. Broader availability is expected worldwide by the end of the year, however.
