By Rachel Ramsey, TMCnet Web Editor

Android (News - Alert) has become by far one of the most popular mobile operating systems in the world. The powerful Android operating system is being deployed in everything from smartphones to watches to mobile gaming systems, because of its advanced functionality and wealth of applications. Over the past year, Android has begun to make the move to business IP phones, which has been driven by Grandstream’s GXP2200.

One of the first and most-popular Android IP Phones on the market is Grandstream’s GXP2200 Enterprise Multimedia Phone for Android, which allows users to experience Android’s features, apps and mobile capabilities right from their desktop IP phone. The GXP2200 features HD audio, a capacitive touchscreen, integrated Bluetooth, access to the Google (News - Alert) Play Store, an advanced SDK toolkit to allow users to create their own custom business applications and more.

Grandstream recently released a powerful firmware upgrade for the GXP2200 to add popular new Android and mobile features to the phone. This new firmware update allows the GXP2200 to be used as a video phone, as it now supports approved third-party USB cameras, such as the LogiTech c310. The upgrade also adds hands-free functionality through the support of voice commands, the ability to record calls directly on the GXP2200, an app-oriented virtual BLF call MPK (Multi-Purpose Key), as well as a group of features specifically for call centers.

In addition to the release of new firmware, the GXP2200 Extension Module has also hit the market. The GXP2200 Extension module features an easy-to-read 128x384 LCD screen and 20 programmable buttons that feature dual-color LED lights. Each extension module offers quick and easy access to up to 40 contacts at the touch of a finger. Connect up to 4 extension modules to the GXP2200 for access to up to 160 contacts. Check out Grandstream’s video on the GXP2200 Extension Module for more.

The expansion module, or GXP2200EXT, is ideal for an office receptionist or offices that manage high call volumes. The modules enable telephone attendants to ensure maximum office productivity by efficiently monitoring and dispatching multiple incoming calls.
