Telefonica Creates Eleven Paths for Security

By Robbie Pleasant, TMCnet Contributor

Security has always been important, but in today’s age of cloud, mobile technology, and social media, it’s more important than ever. As such, Telefónica Digital has created a new digital security company: Eleven Paths.

Eleven Paths will be made up of engineers and security experts from Informática 64, using a hothouse approach to provide security innovation for Telefónica. While it will be run as an autonomous business unit, thus allowing it the flexibility of a startup, it’s still a part of Telefónica, so it can also benefit from the experience and tools at its disposal.

Eleven Paths is run by Chema Alonso, the former Informática 64 CEO, who will in turn report to Telefónica’s CEO, Matthew Key. The company’s focus is on providing products and services that can keep customers’ data and accounts safe from outside threats, such as fraud and e-crime, while driving security innovation.

“For us, the agreement means having the ability to create professional solutions in a faster and increasingly globalized market like the world of security,” says Alonso. “Threats are growing daily, as is the integration of our lives into the digital world; without a global platform like Telefónica Digital, with a strong presence in all layers of the Internet, it is nowadays impossible to create these kind of innovative security solutions.”

Being able to focus solely on digital security allows Eleven Paths to better apply its resources and staff. Given the importance of security, it’s a nice choice, and will likely provide plenty of new tools and software for better keeping one’s data and devices safe, even when using the cloud or a personal device. The managers and employees are all experienced in the field, so they’re bringing a wealth of experience to the company that are sure to prove beneficial for Eleven Paths, Telefónica, and all their customers.
