Google Bans Sexually Explicit Glass Apps

By Oliver VanDervoort, Contributing Writer

The porn industry has always been an industrious bunch. There were few people who were all that surprised when several bigwigs in that industry announced that they were actively looking for a way to get their material onto Google (News - Alert) Glasses.

Not surprisingly, that announcement caused quite a bit of consternation across a wide swath of people who might be looking to use this newest piece of entertainment tech. Google Glass is already facing an uphill battle in becoming the next “it” technology. Apple (News - Alert) has had what seems like an almost decades-long hold on being the company that comes out with hugely popular devices that the general public falls in love with. Considering that Apple’s CEO has come out publicly and said that he prefers smartwatches to Google Glass, the battle looks to be fierce.

Google needed to act quickly to make sure that their policy on sexually explicit material was well known. One group of developers have already come up with a pornographic piece of Glassware (the name given to applications for Google Glass). “Tits and Glass,” was launched Monday and put together before the computing giant had an official policy about such applications.

The developer of the app, Mikandi, says that this is the first adult application for Glass. It allows people to share racy images directly from their device to other users. Techhive reports that the developers have not been directly contacted by Google about the application and that Mikandi said they are discussing whether their plans will change thanks to this new policy.

The official policy comes later than some would like, but before the device gets out to a larger audience. Google Glass is being used by a few thousand people, who all paid a pretty penny ($1,500) to be testers of the device.
