The Google (News - Alert) Wallet for digital goods API – which used to be known as the In-App Payments API – lets users add an in-app to accept payments for virtual and digital items.

That let buyers make purchases across the Web and mobile devices using a secure account, the company said. It is popular, too, given that there are tens of millions of buyers with Google Wallet accounts.

Google tells its developers, “You can add Wallet for digital goods to your app with just a few lines of code. In return, you get the power of Google's payments infrastructure, with PCI (News - Alert) compliance, risk control, and many other benefits.”

It was also recently reported that Google Chrome will soon support in-app payments.

It is expected that Google will bundle Google Wallet in its browser, according to a report from The Next Web. In addition, the Chrome Wallet service app is offered via Chrome Canary. Chrome packaged apps were recently added by Google to the Chrome Web Store.

With the recent addition, Google Wallet is now integrated with the browser, Web Pro News points out.

“Given how much time the average user spends inside the browser, adding a payment service to the software is a natural extension,” according to the report from The Next Web. “It’s not difficult to understand why Google’s browser should include Google’s payment service. …If the company can get Chrome users used to full-blown apps in the browser, it can arguably more easily transition at least some of them to Chrome OS in the future.”

In addition, Google recently announced the benefits of the Google Wallet Objects API in a blog post. It lets developers save to Google Wallet. That includes loyalty programs and other offers. In addition, users can save these items directly to their Google Wallet, the blog post adds.
