NetSapiens Now Offering WebCDR Anti-Fraud to its Customers

By Rory Lidstone, TMCnet Contributing Writer

NetSapiens (News - Alert) and WebCDR have announced a partnership in which the two companies will bring WebCDR's anti-fraud solution to service providers that use the NetSapiens platform. Released earlier this year, the aptly named WebCDR Anti-Fraud is a cloud-based service that repeatedly downloads and analyzes call detail records to inspect for fraudulent traffic, alerting telecommunications carriers if any is found.

NetSapiens helps simplify the delivery of IP voice and multimedia business communications services by way of its turnkey solutions. For example, the NetSapiens SNAPsolution platform integrates applications, software, hardware and services, enabling service providers to quickly deploy their own services.

"NetSapiens offers several ways to thwart fraudulent use, including velocity filters that will recognize and throttle SIP user agents that repeatedly provide incorrect registration credentials, and call filters that will discard packets of originating hosts seeking to find unguarded dial rules," said NetSapiens CEO, Anand Buch, in a statement.

Specifically, WebCDR Anti-Fraud deploys three separate abuse detection algorithms, which allow it to better detect potential fraudulent activity more quickly — often within minutes of a fraudulent instance of traffic. According to Adam Nathanson, founder and CEO of WebCDR, even a single unchecked VoIP fraud incursion can cost in the tens of thousands in lost revenue.

"Hackers are continually probing for insecure switches," added Nathanson. "WebCDR Anti-Fraud offers round-the-clock protection to service providers and carriers."

Still, constant false alarms can also have an adverse effect on VoIP providers. Fortunately, WebCDR Anti-Fraud offers four warning levels — ranging from "information" to "critical" — that let providers know upfront how serious a potential threat may be. Best of all, these alerts can even be fed into third-party ticket tracking systems.

Furthermore, WebCDR Anti-Fraud includes watchdog alarm functions for QoS, is capable of providing data for resolving billing disputes, and is available for a low monthly price.

NetSapiens service provider customers are now able to implement WebCDR Anti-Fraud with ease as it is configurable from a drop-down box option. Meanwhile, the solution has been pre-integrated with the NetSapiens platform to exchange call detail records securely.
