Adtran Bluesocket Group Recognized for its Many Benefits in Virtualization

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

Chris Koeneman, vice president of sales of Adtran’s Bluesocket (News - Alert) Business Group, says 2013 is off to a “fantastic start” for the provider of networking and communications equipment.

It was just a few years ago that Bluesocket became part of Adtran through an acquisition.

Also, Bluesocket’s vWLAN solution was the first network virtualization solution for wireless LAN with hypervisor-based control and management, the company announced last year. And just recently the company further announced that its NetVanta 1535P Gigabit Ethernet Switch with ActivReach and Bluesocket virtual WLAN (vWLAN) solutions for mobile offload services each received TMC’s (News - Alert) 2012 INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award.

The two products were recognized for being among the most innovative VoIP communication solutions.

With the Bluesocket virtual WLAN combined with Adtran’s mobile backhaul solutions, there’s no need for hardware-based controllers, the company explained. It provides scalability to Wi-Fi networks, as carriers find costs are lower and management becomes easier.

Bluesocket leverages network virtualization as well, when it comes to wireless networks.

“The same advantages that virtualization brings to the data center in terms of cost-effective scaling – it can happen with the wireless network as well,” Koeneman told Stefanie Mosca, managing editor of TMC, at an interview during ITEXPO (News - Alert) Miami. “With virtualization we’re able to offer it as a cloud. It can be a private cloud. A corporation could have centralized control and control over access points – all over the world, if they choose.”

Also, service providers and carriers are interested in public cloud offerings, Koeneman added, explaining how flexibility becomes a key benefit.

Upon considering the company’s direction for the year, Koeneman told Mosca, “It’s going to be a successful 2013.”

Overall, Adtran’s products provide for data, video, and Internet communications across network infrastructures. Service providers, private enterprises, government organizations, and individual users continue to employ the company’s products, according to an Adtran statement.
