HTC One Delayed Until Late April

By Kayvon Ghoreshi, TMCnet Contributing Writer

HTC (News - Alert) has been promoting its flagship phone, the HTC One, which has received early praise – a good sign for the device. But sadly it has received a delay. A lot of consumers now won’t be able to get their hands on the device until late April.

“HTC has seen unprecedented demand for and interest in the new HTC One, and the care taken to design and build it is evidenced in early reviews,” the company said in a statement. “The new HTC One will roll out in the U.K., Germany and Taiwan next week and across Europe, North America and most of Asia-Pacific before the end of April. We appreciate our customers’ patience, and believe that once they have the phone in their hands they will agree that it has been worth the wait.”

HTC likely needs the phone to pick up some ground, as last month the company reported a 44-percent drop in revenue from the previous year. The company has struggled to keep up with competitors like Samsung, which have risen to the top of the Android (News - Alert) platform. To make matters worse, the delay will cause the HTC One to release around the same time as Samsung’s (News - Alert) Galaxy S4.

Like its competitor, the HTC One has a large HD touchscreen and a quad-core processor, but it loses the battle as far as cameras go. The HTC One will have a 4-megapixel camera, which pales in comparison to the Galaxy S4’s 13-megapixel camera.

This isn’t to say Samsung’s Galaxy brand has far greater recognition.

While in the past, HTC hasn’t had the advertising campaigns of Samsung, HTC President Jason Mackenzie (News - Alert) has said they will be much more aggressive this time around with the HTC One.

“As a consumer, you will see us,” he said in an interview with AllThingsD. “You will know there are things that make the HTC One great.”
