Updated Facebook App for Android Enables Profile Picture Change

By Nicole Spector, Contributing Writer

Checking and browsing Facebook (News - Alert) on one's smartphone is so common that if aliens landed on earth, they may note the action as a religious ritual. Yet, carrying out simple functions on Facebook via smartphone has never been as easy as when one is using the social media channel on a laptop. Downloads, page opens, and other basic features take longer. Changing anything on one's profile is like performing a minor operation with your fingertips.

Fortunately, for Facebook devotees, the company is recognizing that it needs to brush up its mobile offerings. On Tuesday, Facebook updated its iOS app which, compatible with iOS 5 and up, offers an enhanced mobile experience. Users can share updates, photos, and videos as well as get notifications when a friend likes, comments or initiates group messages.

It's elementary Facebook stuff, but in the past such actions have not been that easy for mobile users to execute. And Apple (News - Alert) isn't the only one getting some loving. The social media mogul has just spruced up its Android app, too.

The updated Android (News - Alert) app enables users to change their profile picture from their Android device – which, you'll learn if you check out about any Facebook help forum – has long been a demand. Though the updated app sports other conveniences, like the ability to hide select news feeds, report spam, and send voices messages, the ability to change one's profile pic is clearly the highlight feature, and will surely be appreciated by those forever using their phones to photograph themselves looking stunning in front of a bathroom mirror.
