GameSkinny Receives $2 Million in Series B Funding

By Kayvon Ghoreshi, TMCnet Contributing Writer

In a recent round of Series B Funding, GameSkinny, a video game publishing platform for everyone in the gaming community, received $2 million investment led by CLR Partners. The funding will help GameSkinny develop as well as help back the existing gaming community Guild Launch. The investment will be used to explore collaborative journalism as a strong component in video game culture and to fund new opportunities that will extend the platform’s reach to areas such as mobile gaming.

GameSkinny launched earlier this year in late January and has seen great success in attracting attention from hardcore gaming enthusiasts to the more casual gamer that still want to voice their opinions.

"After a successful launch earlier this year, we hit the ground running and are pleased to receive funding from CLR Partners," said Amy White, senior editor at GameSkinny. "As experienced veterans in the video gaming space, we're thrilled to see this platform being adapted by so many, so quickly -- a true testament to what gamers want and react positively to."

GameSkinny hopes to become the premier publishing platform that allows for all gamers to get involved. Thanks to the round of funding, the company will be able to expand its offerings as well as become more appealing to a wider spectrum of gamers. The potential impact on the future of video games is a primary reason that CLR Partners led the funding.

"CLR Partners led the Series A round of funding for Guild Launch and is pleased to continue to support Guild Launch and GameSkinny through the Series B funding," said Stephen Johnston, Sr., managing partner, CLR Partners. "GameSkinny will drive the convergence of social, media and mobile; and influence the future of video gaming culture. We look forward to working with GameSkinny as it continues to disrupt the media landscape."
