AT&T U-verse Offering Free Xbox 360, Nexus 7, Kindle Fire or Sonos Play on Select Packages

If you find yourself looking for a new cable, Internet and phone provider, and also happen to be a gadget geek, AT&T (News - Alert) U-verse is offering new customers the choice of either a free Kindle Fire HD, Nexus 7 tablet, Sonos Play:3, or Xbox 360 when signing up for select packages.

The company is also offering free access to its Wi-Fi network, along with a free wireless gateway to those who bundle U-verse TV and Internet.

"Customers tell us they enjoy access to their in-home Wi-Fi network and the freedom to use more than 32,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots across the country, which is why we're building new bundle offers around our broadband services," said Mel Coker, chief marketing officer at AT&T Home Solutions.

In 2012, U-verse introduced new bundle of offerings, aimed at delivering significant savings over 24 months. According to AT&T, approximately 90 percent of new U-verse TV customers also signed up for U-verse high-speed Internet in the fourth quarter, while 70 percent of TV subscribers opted for three or more services from AT&T.

Free gifts or heavy discounts have always been available to new subscribers in this market, especially when signing up for some sort of “tripe play” package which bundles Internet, phone and cable services together in one monthly bill.

But the attraction of new customers may be far greater if a high-priced, tangible gift is handed to them, compared to $30 monthly savings, even though both offers have approximately the same value.

U-Verse high-speed Internet delivered a fourth quarter gain of 609,000 subscribers, reaching a total of 7.7 million. The company's latest gadget could drive standalone broadband customers to take AT&T's pay TV service, which hasn't grown as quickly as U-verse Internet.

In comparison, AT&T only picked up 192,000 U-verse TV subscribers in the fourth quarter, and now counts 4.5 million subscription video customers.
