Foursquare Updates iOS App with new Tap-and-Hold Check-In Feature

By Jody Ray Bennett, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Checking in with Foursquare (News - Alert) when you are out with friends can take longer than one is willing to wait. However, Foursquare is aware of the problem and has updated its iOS app with a new tap-and-hold feature to further speed up the process.

Now to speed up checking in—all that is required is pressing the check in button in the top right corner of the app to bring up a column of places that are nearby. When the place that you are currently at pops up, just tap and hold on it to complete the check-in process. It is a lot more simple and quick, and is great if you just want to check in instead of adding a status or photo. The old way of checking in is still available as well.

Foursquare also guesses the place where you are by lowering down a blue bar that you can tap to check-in, according to a recent report. Foursquare is already pretty good at guessing where you are via the GPS feature, so the process of checking in can be even quicker now. This was a much needed feature for regular Foursquare power users, and while checking-in the old way was not a big hassle, making it quicker is a small change that is welcomed by users and can make a significant difference on a larger scale.

This is just one of the newest updates Foursquare has added, as they have been updating their mobile apps more frequently lately, and the same kind of attention should be expected from them in order to keep users happy and stay relevant.

Foursquare, founded in 2008 by Dennis Crowley (News - Alert) and Naveen Selvadurai, is a free app that helps you and your friends discover great places. The app is currently used by over 30 million people.
