Intel subsidiary Telmap has recently partnered with TomTom (News - Alert) to incorporate mapping and navigation content from the GPS and navigation provider in its products and services in order to enhance the driving experience for its users.
The three year deal will enable Telmap (News - Alert) access to many of TomTom's services including: highly-accurate maps; information about points of interest such as restaurants, gas stations and hotels; guidance at difficult junctions to allow for a safe and easier commute; 2D and 3D city maps; integrated speech technology in map applications, which provides the ability for drivers to request directions by talking to the device; and world boundary maps, highlighting physical, political and geographical features of a location, as well as information about country and state borders.
"We're at the forefront of the move towards mass adoption of mobile location-based services," Oren Nissim, CEO of Telmap, said in a statement. "This means we need to have the best routing and road data available, and that's why this announcement is so important to us. Thanks to TomTom we can now deliver an even better search, mapping and navigation experience to our users, and improve the data we supply to app developers."
Telmap has previously been using data from digital map maker NAVTEQ (News

TomTom looks forward to expanding its services through its collaboration with Telmap.
"We're delighted to add Telmap, a world leader in mobile location-based services, to our portfolio of partners," Charles Cautley, managing director licensing at TomTom, said in a statement. "This partnership means that even more people can benefit from our industry-leading maps and road information, and enjoy an improved navigation experience. It's a very significant and exciting step for us."
Telmap is currently offering a demonstration of its products and services at the 2013 Mobile World Congress (News - Alert).
