Relationship Networking for the Office

By Ashley Caputo, TMCnet Web Editor

Social media has a symbiotic relationship with the mobility and BYOD trend, which has begun to proliferate in both the work and home environment. Businesses are using mobile devices and new apps to communicate and promote their daily functions, while also having the luxury of enjoying their own personal entertainment tools simultaneously.

There are apps, however, that are made specifically for the workplace. Some, like CASEFOLIO and iOrion, which were created to help lawyers file and organize their cases, and others like Bang With Professionals, were designed to help co-workers form relationships. Although these apps exist on two different spectrums that the BYOD trend imposes, when employees are using their own personal devices at work it seems that the creation of a social media apps to promote relationships at work is inevitable. It may come as a surprise to you, but employees have already begun to express enthusiasm and demand for this app.

Although the app has not yet been released, Mashable reported this week that more than 30,000 users have already signed up for the app. A poll on The Independent seems to show that people are willing to use Bang With Professionals, and as of Thursday afternoon, the poll showed that 66 percent of participants said they would use the app, while only 34 percent said they would not.

With this new development there is an obvious movement of social media and the app world towards the workplace, with the BYOD being a main component. Bang With Professionals is just one of many apps that have been geared toward the office environment, but this one takes more of a relationship building role than one to promote work. As the use for mobile devices begins to take a business role we will begin to see more and more social media sites and apps development gear towards this realm.
