17FOX and PrimeSense Partner on 3D Motion-Sensing Promotion Project

By Jody Ray Bennett, TMCnet Contributing Writer

It was announced today that 17FOX, of China TechFaith (News - Alert) Wireless Technology Limited (CNTF), and Israel-based 3D motion-sensing tech company, PrimeSense Ltd., will partner on a project to promote 3D motion-sensing technology, delivery platforms and video games in the Chinese market.

This is expected to involve both the marketing and the delivery of 3D motion sensing games and applications to the region, which would allow users the ability to control using video-captured body movements.

Chairman and CEO at CNTF, Defu Dong, explained that TechFaith’s gaming unit, 17FOX, became the leader in gaming that it is today by capitalising on motion technology, both online and on mobile devices. Their move into the 3D motion-sensing market was motivated by a desire to improve upon their carrier relationships, as well as their own expertise in the area of content development and working with 3D technology, and simply made the most strategic sense as a result.

The agreement will provide 17FOX with access to vital 3D motion-sensing technology, which has been proven in the field, and which would in turn provide users with a more immersive gaming experience.

The choice of “17FOX” as a brand through which CNTF would operate its gaming projects was made with a view to users being better able to remember and identify with the name and its products, more so than “China TechFath Wireless Technology Limited,” Yahoo reports.

PrimseSense is a market leader in what it calls Natural Interaction and 3D sensing, both of which enable devices to interpret visual environmental data for the purpose of stream-lining user-device interaction and input feedback. PrimeSense also offers a range of affordable solutions to both consumer and commercial market members, including: interactive entertainment, robotics, digital signage, consumer electronics, healthcare applications, home computing and more.

Specific products also include: PrimeSense 3D sensor, NITE middleware, Carmine (PS 1080) and Capri System on Chip.

The company is privately held and headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel, with offices all around the world.
