Fly High with Delta's New App

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Whether you are traveling across the country or somewhere thousands of miles way, the process of visiting another location is often frustrating. From being forced to arrive at the airport hours before your flight to waiting on countless lines in order to be searched and then re-searched, it can really make you rethink seeing the world with your own eyes. In order to help flyers relieve their anguish, Delta debuted a new application called the Fly Delta app that will assist customers in an array of travel-related activities.

Now available for the iPad, it contains a "Glass Bottom Jet," an extremely cool function that lets customers see the area as they pass over it in the plane through maps, in addition to being able to use social networks and browse through websites of their selection via Delta’s new line of 800 Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft. It also boasts key travel planning solutions that users can leverage to plan a trip with ease, research locations and even check in for their flight.

"Our goal is to simplify the digital experience across the touch points where our customers already spend their time by making their interactions with Delta easy and intuitive," said Glen Hauenstein, Delta’s executive vice president-Network Planning, Revenue Management and Marketing, in a statement. "The incredible functionality and innovation found in the new iPad app embodies all that we’re doing to further improve the digital experience customers have with Delta. All of this represents the largest investment to delta.com and digital technology in more than a decade."Further, the completely revamped My Delta section seamlessly integrates trip summaries, account details, personal preferences, payment information and travel settings and brings them into one platform. On the other hand, the My Trips section brings all types of details right to the customer’s fingertips ranging from air, car and hotel to weather information that is specific to their intended destination. And the My Wallet feature organizes payment information and receipts in a digital wallet that is always available to anyone with questions.

"Based on customer feedback and behavior, the improvements we’ve made to Delta.com and our kiosks are hitting the mark as customers are enjoying the more intuitive layout, new features, and the ability to take advantage of many of the elements that can be added to their flight experience, such as an Economy Comfort seat, extra SkyMiles and in-flight Wi-Fi," Hauenstein added. Moreover, the airline has been hard at work revamping itsFly Delta app for iPhone (News - Alert), which gives people the option of purchasing tickets online and works in conjunction with Passbook. It sees to be successful thus far as it already has been downloaded more than 5.5 million times.2013 is guaranteed to see not only more major airlines but businesses alike continue to unveil iPass (News - Alert) apps to better keep in touch with their customers and make their busy lives a tad less complex. These solutions make it a breeze to automatically connect to Wi-Fi networks wherever you are and only typically require you to add your credentials once. Touted as changing reinventing the mobility game, these apps power on-demand global connectivity to the masses, something people are requiring now for business and personal use.

In fact, at the recently concluded CES (News - Alert), everything discussed during the event was related in someway to Wi-Fi. In Portugal for example, iPass users are rejoicing over the news that they can now connect to Wi-Fi networks in multiple locations including the Sheraton Lisboa Hotel & Spa, Cafeetaria Linha d’agua and the Holiday Inn Downtown Lisbon.

Enabling excited boundary jumpers to visit their dream areas while resting assured their experiences will be as stress-free as possible could help those who were turned off previously by frustrating wait times or long lines to book a ticket right now.
