Axis Communications Names Motorola Solutions 2012 North America City Surveillance Partner of the Year

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

Axis (News - Alert) Communications, a provider of network video surveillance, has named Motorola Solutions its 2012 North America City Surveillance Partner of the Year. Through its video solutions, first responders are provided with 24/7 views of their community from strategically located video cameras.

Among the firm’s achievements, the work that Motorola (News - Alert) Solutions has been doing in Chicago is what caught the most attention from Axis Communications. The Chicago Sun-Times detailed the work Motorola Solutions has been doing around the city, including providing law enforcement with solutions to perform biometric fingerprint scans on portable wireless computers, scanning driver’s license barcodes, taking photos with hand-held devices, and printing traffic tickets.

Most notable are the updates they provided to police cars, leading reporter Sandra Guy to tout them as “new-age” police cars.

With the new system, law enforcement officers can push a button on their steering wheel to speak to dispatchers, view surveillance videos in real time via a computer screen on the dashboard, and control their vehicle equipment using voice commands – eliminating the need to write down license plate numbers and making calls to dispatchers by checking a database for outstanding violations through photos.

Chicago is not the only city that has benefited from such solutions. Motorola Solutions has aided a number of law enforcement teams, both domestically and internationally, including Los Angeles, Cleveland, Atlanta, Palm Beach County, and even U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Scott Dunn, director of business development for Axis Communications, says “high-quality, reliable IP video” is “absolutely critical” in the city surveillance space, calling Motorola Solutions a “world-class organization” in this area.

Bruce Brda, senior vice president of global solutions and services for Motorola Solutions, says that as government agencies realize the value of video solutions, their end-to-end approach is “helping keep communities safer across the globe.”
