Unified Communications and Collaboration Growing in Mexico

By Robbie Pleasant, TMCnet Contributor

Unified Communications (News - Alert) marches on, with a boost in awareness and popularity from Mexican enterprises. With increased sales of IP telephony, IP phones, and videconferencing solutions, the UC&C market there is set to expand rapidly, according to new analysis from Frost & Sullivan (News - Alert).

The Frost & Sullivan analysis, “Reality Check on Key Mexican Unified Communications and Collaboration Solutions Markets,” found that the UC&C market in Mexico has earned revenue of well over $272 million in 2011, which it estimates will hit over $478 million by 2018. Needless to say, this is an impressive profit, but given the convenience and use of unified communications, it makes sense.

As many legacy systems are near the end of their lives, companies in Mexico are beginning to move to IP-based environments. This is the realm of unified communications and collaboration, which drives many of the companies to invest in UC&C solutions. Of course, cloud-based solutions are also gaining traction among smaller businesses that can’t afford on-premise deployments, adding even more fuel to the UC&C fire.

According to Francisco Rizzo, research analyst at Frost & Sullivan: "Employees demand communication and collaboration tools that are similar to or better than what they are familiar with outside work. With the proliferation of smartphones and tablets, mobile UC applications that enable enterprises to meet employee needs are fast becoming popular."

Of course, there are still some obstacles, such as telecommunications infrastructures being limited, and competition among UC vendors, but these are struggles all markets face. The infrastructures will expand, and the vendors will get their customers soon enough, making way for even more growth for UC&C.

We’re seeing greater awareness about the benefits that UC&C can provide, and an increased interest in getting both on-premise and cloud solutions. For the UC&C market, this can only be good, leading to more innovation, more demand, and a more unified communications experience.
