In a world constantly connected through social media, it’s surprising that the familiar complaint of “nothing to do” still pervades many conversations. Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. seeks to address this problem through its new Loop & Meet app, positioned to be the next big thing in social networking.
Users of Loop & Meet can browse through countless events in every category: night out, music, leisure, festivals and family, arts and movies. Once a user finds something interesting, he/she can invite friends, even if they do not have Loop & Meet installed on their mobile device via Facebook (News - Alert), Twitter, SMS or e-mail.
Users can track responses, send reminders to those who do not respond and send the organizer a list of those who have confirmed.
John Dayani, CEO for the GobaEngage platform, which powers the application, sees this app as a way to take social networking off of the computer screen and out into the real world, where people will interact with real humans, rather than their keyboard.
“In a world becoming increasingly dependent upon mobile technology, our drive is to leverage the momentum around the social-mobile experience to facilitate real, needed personal interaction,” he said. “Gone will be the days of feeling like the girl from the Toyota Venza commercial [below], who thinks that Facebook is her real life and worries that her parents, who are out living life, only have 19 Facebook friends, while she is ‘up to 687 friends now… this is living.’”
Loop & Meet is available free of charge to Apple and Android (News - Alert) users. Although it is initially slated for Singapore use, it’s only a matter of time before this compelling new way to socially connect comes stateside.
The app has already received a rating of 4.8 in the Google Play store.
