As BYOD becomes more widespread and accepted, IT staffers find themselves needing new and improved ways to provide support to mobile devices. For that, Citrix has released improved GoToAssist apps for Android (News - Alert) and iOS, which offer unlimited remote support to attended sessions.
GoToAssist helps IT professionals deliver live support to an employee’s device, connecting instantly from anywhere at any time. While it is free, there’s also a paid version that lets subscribers access unattended machines, view diagnostics, and receive several other useful tools. In the 2012 Small Business Influencer Awards, GoToAssist was recognized as a Community Choice Honoree in the Apps Category, and this new version continues to expand upon the award-winning model.
With these new apps for Android and iOS, IT professionals can support mobile users via optimized chat, as well as update profiles and configure device settings from anywhere. Subscribers using the paid version can view and e-mail diagnostic information, and transfer support sessions between the GoToAssist app and the GoToAssist Expert desktop application. It also includes session recording, allowing for better monitoring of effectiveness and customer support. International versions are also available for users speaking French or German.
“From smartphones to tablets and laptops, mobile devices have simply become a pervasive business necessity,” says Elizabeth Cholawsky, the VP and general manager of Citrix’s IT Support Line of Business. “These are tools that organizations and their employees just can’t live without, which places increased pressure on IT professionals to provide quick and effective support to a growing number of devices. At Citrix, we’re focused on IT support solutions that deliver instant effective support, maximize client satisfaction and drive real business results for new ways of working.”
GoToAssist has been a very useful tool for IT staff in a BYOD environment, and expanding it to iOS and Android devices, some of the most popular devices on the market, can only mean its market will grow. The improved services seem to be a nice improvement, and allowing users to choose between the free service and paid subscriptions is not only convenient for users, but will net more paid subscribers once they see all the uses GoToAssist has. For those looking to get support and assistance in a BYOD environment, GoToAssist seems like an excellent tool.
