Instacube, New Digital Photo Frame for Displaying Instagram Photos, Raises Money on Kickstarter

By Brittany Walters-Bearden, TMCnet Contributor

Digital photo frames are getting a new, social twist. Instacube, which just hit Kickstarter, is a digital photo frame created specifically to display Instagram photos. So far, the project has raised $123,906 from 1,109 Kickstarter backers. There are 30 more days left in their Kickstarter campaign, leaving them ample time to raise the remainder of their $250,000 goal.

The photos displayed on Instacube will connect wirelessly to Instagram, displaying users’ photos at three times the size that they are displayed on the Instagram app on your mobile device at a resolution of 600 x 600. Not only will the photos immediately post from Instagram to Instacube, the screen will also be sensitive to touch.

This morning, there were 49 Instacube devices left on Kickstarter at the special pre-order price of $99 for those early adopters who wanted to be among the first to have an Instacube in their home; however, they have already sold out. There are a number of pledging options remaining, including $799 for a six-pack of Instacubes, which has received four backers, $199 for a “Lover’s Pair” of Instacubes, which has received 214 backers, and $149 for a “classic” Instacube, which has received 26 backers.

If you are looking for something a little more VIP, they offer the “Baller’s Pack” of nine Instacubes and an invitation to their VIP CES (News - Alert) Penthouse Party in Las Vegas, $249 for a Collector’s Limited Edition Instacube in Kickstarter green, which is individually numbered and your name lase-engraved. Or, $10,000 for 25 Instacubes and a custom design session with their designer, John Waley at the D2M office in Mountain View, California. There is even the opportunity to become one of the first vendors to sell Instacubes for a donation of $5,000, which will net you the Vendor’s Pack of 40 Instacubes.

The photo display device will, undoubtedly, be a favorite among Instagram fans. If you don’t have the money to spring for one of their large packages, but want to show your support for the technology, you can pledge as little as $1.
