CA Technologies Teams with USU Software AG

By Tanya Palta, TMCnet Contributing Writer

CA Technologies and Aspera (News - Alert) GmbH (“Aspera”), which also happens to be a wholly owned subsidiary of USU Software AG, have joined hands in a new OEM agreement.

According to the terms of the agreement, CA (News - Alert) Technologies will integrate Aspera’s SmartTrack license management technology with its popular CA IT Asset Manager software.

The CA IT Asset Manager software has been designed to decrease the risk of not adhering to license compliance issues and will also augment the cost, management and distribution of existing assets. According to the research conducted by Gartner's (News - Alert) IT Financial, Procurement and Asset Management Summit, companies show a significant increase in audits every year.  The research analyst recommends that “CIOs should invest the funds needed to ensure that robust asset management is in place and effective, and that asset management staff are empowered to ensure compliance."

As software license agreements with vendors can be extremely complicated, it is the customers who end up being shortchanged. Gartner Analyst Patricia Adams said in a statement, “Correlating license entitlement with installed software is not an easy task. Therefore, vendors specializing in software license optimization are emerging to address this market niche.”

“Aspera lives and breathes software license management,” Christof Beaupoil, president of Aspera Technologies Inc., the U.S.-based sister company of Aspera GmbH added. “By providing CA Technologies (News - Alert) with both our technology and expertise, Aspera can help CA Technologies customers more quickly and easily achieve their efficiency and compliance goals.”

Aspera also deploys its technology as a cloud-based service, which works well with the CA Technologies IT Management-as-a-Service (ITMaas) strategy.

"IT organizations are under intense pressure to get the most out of every dollar of IT spend, even as their environments are becoming increasingly complex," Lokesh Jindal, senior vice president, Service and Portfolio Management, CA Technologies concluded.  "Our relationship with Aspera will help our customers worldwide fulfill this core objective by empowering them to improve utilization of all the assets that support their service delivery."
